MalaMala Camp is an unfenced oasis in the middle of the bush. The world-famous Kruger National Park in South Africa, which is steeped in myth and history, is standing by, ready for you to explore its expansive landscapes and stunning African animals on a four-day self-drive safari.
On a genuine self-drive safari through Kruger National Park, you will have the opportunity to go on an adventure in search of the “Big Five” animals of Africa: the elephant, lion, rhinoceros, leopard, and buffalo. You will also encounter several other species of exotic wildlife.

The River Lodge provides sophisticated luxury accommodation in five freestanding villa-style suites in a peaceful setting overlooking the Timbavati River. As part of the Greater Kruger conservation area, the reserve is home to herds of elephants, antelope, leopards and colourful birds guaranteeing sightings of a vast diversity of species during game drives. The relaxed and personal ambience at the lodge further creates a sense of being in a private home in the heart of the African bush. Meals are served on a terrace under a Jackalberry tree, often witnessed by some elephants wandering up to drink from the infinity pool.
Early in the morning you will be collected from your address in Johannesburg to travel eastwards via the N4 motorway through the Highveld of Gauteng and Mpumalanga, and into the Thornybush Game Reserve near Hoedspruit in Limpopo.
The drive may take about six to seven hours, during which you will stop for refreshments.
You should reach the lodge around mid-day and have time to freshen up and relax before you depart on an open safari vehicle for your first afternoon game drive in the reserve.
After watching the sun set you will return to the lodge where dinner will be ready.
You overnight in your luxury accommodation at Thornybush River Lodge and your lodging includes lunch and dinner.
Get up very early each morning to enjoy a hot beverage and rusks before departing on the first game drive of the day to catch some nocturnal animals still out hunting, and witness the sun rising.
You will return to the lodge for a late breakfast and can choose to spend the rest of the day lazing around and relaxing in the tranquillity of the bush.
Your afternoon game drive will depart at about 16:00 and return after sunset just in time for another scrumptious dinner under the African skies.
You overnight in your luxury accommodation at Thornybush River Lodge and your deal includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
On the last morning of your stay you will get up early again, enjoy your hot beverage and rusks, and depart on the final game drive.
After experiencing another African sunrise, you return to the lodge for breakfast before departing to Johannesburg. You will arrive at your drop-off point around 17:00.
