Sable Camp is an elegant, African themed location with air-conditioned lounge or library area with satellite television and DVD player, dining room, safari bar, expansive wooden safari deck, filtered swimming pool overlooking the Sand River and a traditional reed “boma” for evening meals. MalaMala Game Reserve was the first privately owned and commercially operated game reserve in South Africa and became the benchmark for the luxury safari industry in Southern Africa. Sable Camp is located next to MalaMala Camp, with beautiful views of the Sand River and surrounding bushveld. The reserve shares an unfenced boundary with the world-famous Kruger National Park (KNP) and has 20 kms (13 miles) of Sand River frontage, which makes the river the focus of MalaMala’s wildlife experience because it draws many animals all year round.
The lodge sleeps a maximum of 20 guests in 10 chalets or rooms, most of which sporting a small veranda with camping chairs and with views of the river, while others have views of a small plains area with a watering hole. Accommodation is comfortable and suitable for those looking for a value for money option in the Sabi Sand. All rooms are en-suite and airconditioned. Some rooms are set up to allow families or small parties of three friends with separate but connected rooms. Umkumbe has three Standard and seven Superior rooms, with the latter larger with outdoor en-suite showers.
