The Village chalets are stylish yet budget conscious. Each room has some unique decorative flourishes, but all of them are perfectly appointed to ensure maximum comfort at a budget price. Each chalet is perfectly air conditioned (pleasant throughout the whole year – but really desirable in Southern Hemisphere summer months). They also have an en-suite shower/wet room, crisp clean linen on wonderfully comfortable beds, with a daily housekeeping and turn down service. Outside each room is a patio on which to enjoy some quiet time.
Discover the scenic wonders of this region, staying at a dramatically revamped game lodge located in a remote part of the reserve. Greenfire Game Lodge is famous for its contemporary architectural design which takes safari-chic to the next level. The luxury suites have been carefully positioned on an elevated ridge overlooking the seasonally-dry Mohlabetsi River which is a wildlife thoroughfare. Luxurious facilities, daily game drives and starlit dinners at an outdoor boma makes this stunning eco-destination the ideal retreat for wildlife and nature lovers.
Accommodation is provided in eight individual suites built some distance from each other among Knobthorn and Jackalberry trees. The suites are individually decorated in a modern African theme, with high ceilings and extra screens on windows and doors so that it can be left open at night. Suites are equipped with air-conditioners and overhead fans. In addition to the original ones, new Makubela suites, built at the end of a raised walkway and named after a territorial female leopard, offer the ultimate in luxury, comfort and privacy.
On the banks of the Sand River in a premier wildlife reserve, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, lies Umkumbe Safari Lodge. A visit to Umkumbe will give you one of the best big five game viewing opportunities in southern Africa. Umkumbe Safari Lodge is owner managed which ensures you a personal, rustic and real South African experience. Most of the ten chalets and rooms overlook the seasonal Sand River offering you unlimited sights of elephant, hippo, buffalo and antelope grazing in the riverbed. Other facilities include a swimming pool, lounge, bar and dining area and the traditional boma, where hearty South African meals are served.
Departing from the Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport Bus Terminal by 07:00am, travel east via the N4 motorway through the Highveld of Gauteng and Mpumalanga, down the escarpment and into the scenic Lowveld to the reserve inside the Greater Kruger National Park.
The drive will take about six hours, during which you will stop for refreshments. After reaching the lodge around mid-day, you will have the opportunity to freshen up and relax before departing on an open safari vehicle for your first afternoon game drive in the reserve.
Back at the lodge a delicious starlit dinner will await you, weather permitting.
You overnight in the luxury accommodation at Umkumbe Safari Lodge and your deal includes lunch and dinner.
You will get an early wake-up call and just have time for a hot beverage and rusks before departing on a 3-hour game drive to see the sun rising in the east.
On return you can enjoy a brunch and choose to spend the rest of the day at the pool or lazing around before it is time for an afternoon game drive with an expert guide, to return in time for another dinner under the stars.
You overnight in the luxury accommodation at Umkumbe Safari Lodge and your deal includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Rise early, enjoying a hot beverage and rusk, you depart on your last morning game drive. After witnessing the sunrise, you return to the lodge for breakfast before departing to Johannesburg. You will arrive at your drop-off point at approximately 17:00.
