For those travelling from Johannesburg, start by taking the N12/N4 through Witbank (eMalahleni) and then turn left onto the R540 to Belfast. In Belfast, turn right towards Dullstroom and Mashishing (Lydenburg).
From Mashishing, follow the signs for the R36 to Ohrigstad, passing through the scenic Abel Erasmus Pass and the JG Strydom Tunnel. Continue on the R36, and after the Tzaneen turn-off, but before reaching Hoedspruit, turn right onto the R531 towards Klaserie/Acornhoek/Orpen.
Travel approximately 30 kilometres to the R40, pass under a railway bridge, and turn left at the Orpen sign, following this road for about 40 kilometres. At the national park gate, inform the guards that you are heading to Ngala Safari Lodge (no vehicle entrance fee, but conservation fees apply).
Drive straight, take the left fork at the ‘V’ sign for “Ngala Tented Camp,” cross the Timbavati Riverbed, and follow the signs to Ngala Safari Lodge.
For travellers coming from Nelspruit, take the R40 towards White River, continue to Hazyview, pass Bushbuckridge, and proceed to Acornhoek. At the traffic lights in Acornhoek, go straight towards Klaserie. Shortly after, turn right at the Orpen sign and follow this road for about 40 kilometres and proceed as above.
