Shindzela Tented Camp

Shindzela is all about the authentic African wildlife experience. Based in a low-key and affordable tented camp, Shindzela offers excellent opportunities to explore every aspect of the African wilderness including the famous Big 5. Operating in a private concession within the Timbavati Nature Reserve Shindzela’s rangers offer exclusive game viewings and walking safaris. The rangers are passionate about the environment of the Greater Kruger National Park and love sharing their knowledge and stories with the guests.

The tented camp was intentionally kept very basic. The whole camp designed to enhance the experience of this natural environment and its wildlife. The camp is unfenced allowing wildlife to move in and out freely. Solar energy powers Shindzela Tented Camp minimizing the carbon footprint and doing away with noisy generators.

Accommodation is in permanent safari tents. Supported by a wooden structure these tents offer ample comfort, but don’t block out the sounds and smells of the wild. If you want to truly experience the African bush in comfort these permanent tents are ideal.

No more than 16 guests at a time are hosted at Shindzela, allowing for privacy and an exclusive safari experience.

Shindzela prides itself in offering guests the ultimate wildlife experience. The Greater Kruger National Park is world renowned Big 5 territory and more than 40 species of mammals and 360 bird species roam the environs of Shindzela Tented Camp. Morning and late afternoon game drives catch the wildlife during the most active stages of the day. The rangers have an incredible enthusiasm for this wild environment and are happy to explain even the smallest detail. Shindzela is one of the only tour operator allowed to drive off the road to track predators and unusual sightings.

Walking safaris are the best way to get a holistic understanding of Africa’s fauna and flora. Shindzela conducts walking safaris in the Greater Kruger National Park. Wildlife encounters are always safe as the rangers are armed and highly experienced. Walking safaris can take 2-4 hours and special requests are catered to whenever possible.

Night drives with a floodlight offer chances of seeing nocturnal creatures such as bush babies, porcupines, civets, genets and African wild cats.

Two game activities per day are included in Shindzela’s package.

This low-key safari camp focusses on the characteristic highlights of an African safari: excellent game viewing, picturesque sunsets and stories around the fire. The entire camp has an organic feel and blends in seamlessly with the natural environment. The camp is unfenced and solar powered. A plunge pool offers relief from midday heat. The dining area enjoys a view of the surrounding wilderness. Dinners are often savoured around the fire and African specials like Gertie’s Amarula Pudding are firm favourites with all visitors.
The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is a true wilderness area adjacent to the Kruger National Park. Despite being in private ownership the land was never developed. The private and untouched game areas of Timbavati have now opened up to the Greater Kruger National Park. With no borders between Timbavati and the Kruger animals can roam freely and follow their natural migration routes.

The Greater Kruger National Park is home to most African big game. At Shindzela you have the chance to see the Big 5 as well as rare predators such as wild dog and cheetah. The rangers and trackers are highly skilled to give you the most of this incredible wealth of wildlife.
