A four-day safari in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, with luxury lodging under canvas tents at Umkumbe Bush Lodge, provides the ideal glamping experience.
The Sabie Game Reserve’s scenic area has a diverse habitat, ranging from winding riverbeds and woodland to open savanna and riverine thickets. This wilderness reserve is home to the Big Five, as well as a diverse range of flora and fauna.
The Umkumbe Bush Lodge is nestled beneath a canopy of indigenous trees in the Sabi Sand’s southern reaches. This luxury tented camp, the reserve’s first of its kind, offers all of the creature comforts of home, but with a luxurious twist.
Two daily game drives are included in a safari stay at Umkumbe Bush Lodge. A scenic coffee stop may be included in the morning safari, and a classic safari sundowner and snacks may be included in the afternoon drive.
The main lodge at Umkumbe looks out over a patch of open savanna, a wooded thicket, and a winding drainage line that eventually empties into the seasonal Sand River. In the downtime between excursions and meals, visitors can explore the outdoors and keep an eye out for the game.
Elegant tent suites with plenty of space are located on their own elevated wooden decks in the middle of a forest and are all given names of trees native to the area. There are a total of nine suites available at this luxurious lodge, four of which are basic, one of which is luxury, and four outstanding. Each luxury tent has a balcony and comes with all the essentials for a relaxing safari vacation.
The suite features a private sitting area on a raised wooden terrace, a tea/coffee station, a standing fan, air conditioning, a baggage stand, a hair dryer, a mosquito net, a safe, bathroom amenities, and the option to convert the beds from twin to a double.
The Superior Tented Suites are secluded, private rooms that have a King bed, a sleeper sofa, and the option of an extra single bed for youngsters. There’s also a shower in the backyard, a bath, and separate vanities for couples. Two people and up to three children can stay comfortably here.
The opulent Leadwood Tent offers perfect seclusion and features a King bed and sofa bed. Also included are a separate soaking tub, his and her vanities, and an outside shower. One child can stay with their parents.
All of the regular tents are chic and roomy, with their own elevated wooden decks and natural settings among the trees. The room features a king-size bed that can be split into two twin beds, as well as a bathroom with simply a shower. Only two people can be accommodated in each tent.
Depending on the weather, breakfast and lunch will be served alfresco at the main lodge and supper will be served in the boma area along a blazing fire.
Collection and Drop off
For this package, Kruger Safari Company Tours and its service providers provide affordable private transfers. Guests are picked up from any Johannesburg hotel or address between 7:00 and 7:30. Guests are dropped off at their hotel or address as arranged or at Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport around 17:00.
Remember that if you intend to fly out of OR Tambo International Airport on the final day of your safari tour, we recommend booking a domestic flight no earlier than 19:30 and an international flight no earlier than 21:00.
