Getting to Idube Safari Lodge

 

By Air

 

There are two routes to the lodge for those travelling by air. The first would be to fly from Johannesburg to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) in Nelspruit, then take a transfer to Idube.

An alternative route is to take a direct flight to Sabi Sands Game Reserve in Mpumalanga from Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport, then transfer to Idube Safari Lodge in a 4×4 safari vehicle.

 

By Road

 

If you decide to drive to Idube Game Lodge, expect a journey along mostly well-maintained roads, with some gravel sections towards the end, taking approximately 5 to 6 hours.

From Johannesburg or Pretoria, head towards Nelspruit via the N12/N4 route. Upon reaching Nelspruit, switch to the R40 towards Hazyview. As you arrive in Hazyview, turn onto the R536 leading to the Paul Kruger Gate, covering approximately 34.6 km along the Paul Kruger Gate Road.

Watch for the Newington Gate signs on your left, indicating the entrance to Sabi Sands Wildtuin (Game Reserve). Follow this dirt road for about 9 km, passing a school on the left, until you reach a bustling four-way intersection with roadside stalls and lodge boards.

Make a right turn here, following the sign for Newington Gate. Continue until you reach a T-junction, where you’ll turn left, following the sign once more. After about 2 km, you’ll cross a river and spot the Newington Gate/Sabi Sands sign; take a left turn here.

Keep going for another 1.2 km without turning off until you arrive at the entrance gate to Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Pay the entrance fees, turn left immediately inside the reserve, and follow the signs leading to Idube Game Lodge.
