By Road
Take the N12 or N4 from Johannesburg to Emalahleni and Middelburg, then the R540 towards Emakhazeni, Emnotweni (Dullstroom), and Mashishing. Emnotweni is located on the high level and is a great place to stop and explore the area. The settlement is an excellent halfway or lunch break on the road to Kapama Private Game Reserve.
From Mashishing, take the R36 to Ohrigstad, then through the Strijdom Tunnel to Hoedspruit.
This picturesque journey across Mpumalanga showcases magnificent mountain vistas and panoramic views. Expect panoramic views of the Lowveld below as you travel up the mountain passes and onto the upper escarpment. At the Strijdom Tunnel, roadside vendors sell local ethnic curios.
