If you yearn for an unrivalled African Safari experience, Chisomo Safari Camp on the Makhutsi River deep in the Karongwe Game Reserve in Limpopo, is your ideal destination. Chisomo Safari Camp offers a warm atmosphere, friendly staff and fine cuisine to complement the excellent Big 5 game viewing of the reserve. You will reach the Karongwe Game Reserve and the lodge after a scenic drive via the N4 motorway through eMalahleni (Witbank), Middleburg, Dullstroom, Ohrigstad and the JG Strydom Tunnel towards Tzaneen.
Each luxurious, freestanding and spacious suite offers seclusion and spectacular views of the Sand River while the main building houses a library containing rare African books and magnificent works of art, an elegant, African themed air-conditioned dining room, historic bar featuring photographs of the early days of the area, a large wooden safari deck where meals and teas are served and a traditional reed “boma” for evening meals around the fire. A large infinity pool also offers magnificent views across the river while guests also have a safari boutique with quality clothing, jewellery and artefacts and a small fitness facility with a steam room available.
Camp Shonga is that small intimate bush retreat that you have dreamt about all your life. Built in pristine bush in the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains, it mainly offers views over the African bushveld.
Kapama Southern Camp is a family-friendly Big 5 safari destination in the Greater Kruger National Park, located in Kapama Private Game Reserve. The reserve spans some 13 000 hectares, made up of lush savanna grasslands and riverine forests with two perennial rivers running through the reserve. The abundance of water attracts a rich selection of game and birdlife. Southern Camp is the newest addition to Kapama Private Game Reserve and was set up with the whole family in mind. There are 15 luxury ensuite Suites and 10 new-built Villas, which includes 3 spacious Family Villas. Each suite and villa is air-conditioned and stylishly decorated in a contemporary fusion of African-safari chic décor.
Specifically designed to leave the smallest possible foot-print in this pristine wilderness, the 150 en-suite luxury tented suites are tastefully decorated to provide comfort and an authentic African bush ambiance. Your timber and canvas suite overlooks the bush and you can enjoy the rare privilege of a (completely private) outdoor shower under the wide African sky.
Day 1
Our Kruger Park Nkambeni Tented Lodge Safari departs from the Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport Bus terminal in a minvan by 07:00am.
You travel East passing picturesque landscapes and farmlands on route to our lodge near Kruger, enjoying a comfort stop along the way.
After check in you will have time to relax and freshen up before boarding an open safari vehicle for your first safari drive in the Kruger National Park.
After your safari game drive you return to the lodge where you can unwind, have drinks and relax.
Day 2
Your safari will begin before sunrise, since this is the best part of the day for game viewing. This is also the best time of day to see predators.
The Mpumalanga province, which means “place of the rising sun,” is South Africa’s first province to see the sun rise.
After a short drive from the lodge into the national park, you enter the park gates and your guide will take you to the best areas to find wildlife including the Big 5 and plains game.
The lodge will provide breakfast packs, and your guide will stop after about 3 hours for breakfast, a bathroom break, and the opportunity to purchase coffee.
You then continue with your safari through the variety of eco zones in the Kruger National Park, each zone with its own set of wildlife.
Along the route, you will visit rivers and watering holes, as well as plains and Bushveld regions.
You will then stop for lunch at a rest stop, where you will be responsible for your own meal. This also gives you time to do some souvenir shopping or enjoy a cold beer!
The safari will then continue back towards the lodge, arriving around 15.30 – 16.00, with time to relax or swim, before enjoying a delicious dinner.
Day 3
Breakfast is served at the Lodge before departing on a full tour of the Panorama Route, home to the 3rd Largest canyon in the world and the largest vegetated canyon in the work. The 8 hour tour takes you to sites such as, Gods Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes, the Blyde River Canyon, 3 Rondavals, 1 of the numerous waterfalls along the route, Graskop and Pilgrams rest.
Lunch is on your own account at one of the many stops along route.
After a full day of scenic wonders, you will return to the lodge for a welcoming cold beverage and dinner.
Day 4
This is the last day of your Kruger safari Experience. This morning you have a choice between another sunrise game drive or relaxing at the lodge. This is an optional game drive and for your own account (payable at the lodge).
Just before 12 noon the lodge will transfer you to the shuttle pickup point in Hazyview. You will then return to Johannesburg with the transfer shuttle. Comfort stops on the way. Drop off at Johannesburg OR Tambo airport around 5.30 pm – 6 pm.
