Activities

Game drives in Ngala are an exclusive affair. Situated in a private reserve Ngala does not have to share this territory with other tour operators making sure that your game sightings are undisturbed. Ngala is unfenced allowing animals to roam freely in and out of the Kruger National Park. Game drives depart in the early morning and late afternoon, which are the busiest times in the African bush. Night drives are a special treat as you will see nocturnal species and different behaviour.

Walking safaris can be easy educational walks in the bush, where the rangers have the chance to share their detailed knowledge about the environment. You might also request to track down a certain species on foot, which always creates a unique thrill during the walks. Walking safaris are conducted by an experienced and armed ranger ensuring your safety at all times.

A spacious veranda overlooking a busy waterhole gives guest the opportunity for daylong game viewing. Dinners in the candlelit courtyard are freshly prepared and offer imaginative blends of wholesome flavours. A special treat are dinners out in the bush. Surrounded by flickering lanterns and overlooked by bright stars this is sure to be a meal you will never forget. Comfortable armchairs on the veranda and a generously sized pool allow you to relax between game drives.

“Ngala” is the Shangaan word for Lion and the reserve is aptly named. The king of beasts is frequently sighted in the Ngala Private Game Reserve. On the border of the Timbavati Game Reserve Ngala is part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Since fences have been taken down in the private game reserves west of Kruger the wildlife roams freely through one of Africa’s largest conservation areas. Ngala is home to the Big 5 as well as most other big game species of Southern Africa and 360 species of birds.

Ngala can be reached via Johannesburg. A six hours’ drive will get to from the airport to the reserve. Flights from Johannesburg depart to Eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport (45min to Ngala) or Nelspruit (3.5 hours to Ngala).
